Philanthropic and kind-hearted Parsi Zarthoshtis of yesteryears have contributed sizeable funds for establishing various religious, educational and cultural institutions, including gymkhanas for promoting sports and physical culture all over India. With passage of time and shortage of funds such institutions could not be maintained properly.
Our Surat Parsi Gymkhana, though, situated in a posh, elegant area of Athwalines, Surat, too has faced similar problems since 1975, resulting in a dilapidated building. In fact, our Gymkhana was founded by sessions judge Diwan Bahadur Pirojsha Taleyarkhan, eminent advocate and renowned educationist Nusserwanji Vakil and ophthalmologist Dr Nadirsha Mogul, way back in 1938.
