Dr Anjali Nicholson, head of the Ophthalmic Department of Nair Hospital in Bombay was honored at the charter night cum installation ceremony of the Lions Club of Byculla for her service to hundreds of patients who come from financially backward communities. Going beyond the call of duty, Nicholson and her dedicated staff make use of the ophthalmic mobile van donated by the Club to reach out to the poorest of the poor in the slums and suburbs of Bombay, Percy Buharivala, director of the Club informed Parsiana in a write-up forwarded to the magazine by Zarine Commissariat, an active member of Lions Club International.

The Byculla Club has been associated with the Ophthalmic Department of Nair Hospital for over 25 years. Starting with the donation of intra-ocular lenses, the Club is now in the process of upgrading the department at a cost of over Rs 80 lakh through a grant from Lions Club’s International Foundation, in the spirit of service to humanity, Buharivala notes.
