Former attorney general of India and eminent jurist Soli Sorabjee (pictured) said he would "now spend time organizing jazz festivals as his pastime," having stepped down as president of the India International Center (IIC), reported the Hindustan Times of 
June 26, 2017. Sorabjee is the president of Capital Jazz which has been organizing Jazz Yatras and Jazz Utsavs in the country for 30 years and is responsible for popularizing this genre of music in India.
Sorabjee gave three reasons for stepping down from the president’s post: his family did not want him to continue with "the burden;" he was seen more often at IIC than in the courts; "we wanted to do it in a graceful and cordial manner so that there is no controversy or acrimony." Some life trustees and members had termed his re-election to the position at their annual general meeting in March this year as invalid.
The IIC is a nongovernmental organization set up to "initiate the exchange of new ideas and knowledge in the spirit of international cooperation." Narinder Vohra, governor of Jammu and Kashmir, is the new president of the IIC.
