"We don’t know if we can have live intergroup events this year,” XYZ (Xtremely Young Zoroastrians) founder Hoshaang Gotla had told Parsiana on May 8, 2020. "There have been daily online challenges for community kids since April 1,” he said. As an alternative, the six-year-old organization held virtual games over the Zoom platform that saw around 2,500 participants in all.
The organization was egged on by the success of their first ever virtual summer camp that kicked off on May 10 with 42 participants from the Dadar based group Behram’s Battalion (BB) taking to networking platform Zoom. Chinese Whispers with a twist, baking cookies and planting of sprouts featured in the camp, noted BB president elect Shanaya Saklatwala in an update on XYZ’s social media. XYZ functions location-wise in Bombay, with children-led groups at Zoroastrian colonies and areas.
A child or a parent-volunteer could set a fun, simple task that the children did at home. Challenge number 36 for May 12, for instance, designed by Khurshid Shroff, volunteer of Cusrow Baug-based Darius’ Daredevils required the children to write XYZ on a large paper with their toes. Results from all the kids who participated for 24 hours starting 12:00 noon were sent to Gotla who collated the results and announced the winners on social media. Reportedly, the results were much awaited by both children and their parents. Challenge 36 brought an end to the first series, with a fresh start involving similar challenges taking off on June 1, stated Gotla.  Five groups of Bombay-based children totaling about 150, banded under XYZ, were to hold their second online camp titled "Monsoon Magic” from June 11-15, noted coordinator Avan Navdar, in conversation with Parsiana on June 6. On the cards are quiz, Zumba, Pictionary games, music, baking and craftwork, she stated.
