What an impressive article my friend Aban Mukherji has written about New Era School (pictured) ("The end of an Era," Parsiana, August 7, 2018). She writes about her experiences as a pupil as well as a teacher there. With pride I can say I taught there for 20 years. Also my late ophthalmologist husband Dr Homi Dordi studied in this prestigious institution and was extremely proud about the same. His classmates were radio music legend Amin Sayani, actor Shammi Kapoor and renowned lawyer Hoshang Lashkari. Sadly this School, famous for its Gandhi and Tagore ideologyhas shut down after the Birlas bought it from the original owners. NERGISH DORDI

In "The end of an Era" (Parsiana, August 7, 2018) I should have mentioned that the whole assembly chanted the beautiful verse "Lead me from untruth to truth, from darkness to light, from death to immortality." from the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, Asato Ma Sadgamaya, rendered beautifully into Gujarati by Kavi Nahnalal. The Gujarati version/translation was the first verse of a longer prayer written by him.
