An Iranian Navroz

A recital by musical ensemble Shoorangiz, specially flown in from Tehran marked the Jashn-e-Navroze function organized by the Culture House of the Islamic Republic of Iran on March 23, 2018. "They enthralled the audience with their soul-stirring performance of Iranian classical and folk music,” states a note received from director Mahdi Zare Bieib. Organized jointly with the Indo-Iranian Friendship Society, the program held at the Culture House’s auditorium included felicitation of the new consul general of Iran in Bombay, Ahmad Sadeghi.        Musical ensemble Shoorangiz at Jashn-e-Navroze: flown in from Tehran          (From l): Mahdi Zare Bieib, Ahmad Sadeghi, Godrej Dotivala     In his welcome speech Bieib remarked about Navroz being a day of rejoicing, rejuvenation and universal brotherhood; Godej Dotivala, secretary general of the Society traced the origins of the festival. Sadeghi drew attention to a special United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) resolution calling on all nations to celebrate Navroz as the festival of spring. ...
