In order to publish more current Milestones information Parsiana will carry the names of the deceased from the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) website bpppaidust.in and of those cremated and/or whose funerary ceremonies were performed at the new Worli Prayer Hall. The names of those cremated are sent to us by Prayer Hall coordinator Ervad Framroze Mirza, by e-mail.
The last few names of those deceased in end August 2016 find a mention here as well as those who passed away till September 10.
In a birth starved community the arrival of 11 babies in August — all born in one south Bombay hospital — may well be a reason to celebrate!
Interfaith marriages taken place between May to August 2016 have also been published in this issue.
Names of contracting parties marrying out of the community have been culled from the registers seen at the Old Customs House (OCH) at Fort and at Khar. However, those names that could not be identified as Zoroastrian have been deleted.
Interfaith unions numbered six at OCH and seven at Khar. Two civil marriages had taken place at OCH.
Since the opening of the Prayer Hall at Worli no Zoroastrian opted to be cremated at the Chandanwadi crematorium during the four month period.
Because of the fracas at the BPP, Parsiana has not been sent the August 2016 death list. Hence we are unable to mention the causes of deaths of those who passed away last month. On receipt of the same the causes of deaths shall be published in a subsequent issue.
The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anjumans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anjumans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by one hospital — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
If readers have any births/ marriages/deaths they would like published, some proof to ensure the veracity of the report would be required. We are sure our readers would appreciate this requirement and cooperate with us.
