Field Marshal memorial

"A seven-foot iron frame statue of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw was unveiled at Bangalore’s eponymous Parade Ground on January 29, 2024 by Lt Gen K. S. Brar, general officer commanding, Dakshin Bharat Area. The statue stands at the center of an imposing new entrance gate and is flanked by the insignia of Southern Command and Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area.
Sixty-six feet in width and 20 ft in height, the gate is said to "embody the discipline of effort that defines the Indian Army.” The Deccan Herald (DH) website stated: "The statue captures the essence of his resolute leadership, serving as a poignant reminder of his invaluable contributions to the nation.”The area boasts a meticulously planned layout, a harmonious blend of military precision and artistic finesse, noted The Hindu website of the same date. Quoting the ministry of defence, news reports stated that "the gate is also architecturally appealing, seamlessly blending tradition with modern design.” Commenting on the "intricate detailing” and "symbolic elements” on the structure, DH reported that it creates a "visual spectacle” and "signifies the military ethos associated with the Indian Army.”
Bangalore’s Republic Day and Independence Day parades are held at the Ground. Plans are also underway to engage the community through military displays, educational programs, guided tours and interactive displays. The aim is to foster a deeper understanding of the Indian Army and the historical context surrounding the Parade Ground, news reports stated.
