In what newspapers have described as a first, retired Supreme Court Justice Rohinton Nariman has started a YouTube channel. Unveiled on April 16, 2022 and titled "Justice Nariman Official Channel,” the medium is a repository of 48 of his lectures on law, history, religion, music, spirituality among others. Most of these lectures were delivered during his tenure at the apex court. Quoting "people familiar with the development,” the Hindustan Times (HT) dated April 19 stated the channel was "Nariman’s idea that he nurtured with a lawyer friend, and worked on for almost a month before making it live.”
Justice Rohinton Nariman’s lectures are now on YouTube
The site has acquired 10,500 subscribers, Parsiana observed on April 28. Topics ranged from "Musings on Music,” a dialog between Nariman, and fellow music aficionados Dr Farokh Udwadia and National Centre for the Performing Arts chairman Khushroo Suntook; lectures on "Philosophy and practice of Zoroastrianism,” "The future of legal education in India,” "Great judges from Nagpur,” "Discordant notes — The voice of dissent in the court of last resort” and the judge’s speech at Ahmedabad’s Navroz celebrations this March.
Since retiring from the apex court (see "The Supreme sojourn,” Parsiana, September 7-20, 2021), Nariman has called at least twice for repealing the law on sedition, he has also decried the prevalence of hate speeches (see "Slamming haters,” Events and Personalities, Parsiana, February 7-20, 2022).
