Peace and poetry

Photographer, scriptwriter and filmmaker Sooni Taraporevala launched The Music of the Spheres, a compilation of poems written mostly by children and brought out by Rati Wadia, former principal of Queen Mary School, as part of the 100 Thousand Poets for Change (100 TPC) poetry festival. The book, illustrated by Katie Bagli, carries Forewords from three principals — Mona Seervai of Bombay International School, Perin Bagli of Activity High School and Fr Kenneth Misquitta of St Mary’s ICSE in Mazgaon — as children from these schools had participated in the festival.

Now in its fourth year, 100 TPC is a global movement that brings together poets, musicians and artists from around the world to celebrate and promote peace, sustainability and justice and to call for serious social environmental and political change, mentions Wadia in a write-up sent to Parsiana. The four-day program was curated by poet and journalist Menka Shivdasani. The book launch at Kitab Khana on October 18, 2015 preceded the festival.
The five elements — fire, water, air, sky and earth — were the theme of the poems as well as illustrations that adorned the walls. The youngest participant was a four-year-old, Wadia mentions.
