“Climate and cricket”

With reference to my letter "Climate and cricket” (Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, December 21, 2019-January 6, 2020), I would like to correct an error I made. Cricket historian Kersi Meher-Homji informs me that he was a spectator in the 1979-80 Test match at the Brabourne Stadium when a riot broke out as it was felt that the junior commentator’s decision had favored the batsman of the visiting team. However, A. F. S. Talyarkhan was not a commentator then. As to the spats between the players, I would like to mention one particular incident. The bowler Harbhajan Singh’s utterance of a Hindi word was interpreted by the Australian Andrew Symonds as monkey, which resulted in a war of words. It is good that Symonds did not know the language, as the meaning of the Hindi word used could have been worse than monkey! Dr V. M. MEHER-HOMJI  ...
