Judges Zarin Davar, Zenia Lawyer and Dinaz Delwadewala were pleasantly surprised with the talent and spirited performances of the elderly residents of the F. S. Parukh Dharamshalla as each one came forward to sing devotional as well as film songs, shayaris, convey philosophical messages, tell jokes and stories at the annual contest held for the senior citizens on January 9, 2017. Mehru Lala and Firdosh Engineer were crowned Queen and King 2016 respectively, while Nergish Mehta and Rohinton Dastoor were first runners up, states an email received from the Dharamshalla. The title of Dancing Queen and King went to Freny Madan and Cyrus Mehta.

The event was sponsored by a well-wisher of the Dharamshalla and attended by members of the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay as well as Hilla Mistry, long-time supporter of the facility. Despite the demise of Dickey Chothia a few days before the event, his wife Zarine, who along with other members of the Ladies’ Advisory Committee organizes the show, wanted the residents to have a great time as planned. The Committee provides entertainment to the elderly residents of the Dharamshalla in the form of television, movies, musical, dance and magic shows and religious discourses. The party on January 9 ended with birthday celebrations for those born in the months of December and January and snacks provided courtesy the Taj, the email concludes.
