The Rs 220 crores (USD 26,580,609) from the sale of Sunny Ville, a colonial style bungalow on Carmichael Road in South Bombay standing on almost half an acre of land belonging to the late Ernevaz Dubash will be channeled to the Peroshaw Dhunjishaw Bolton Charities (PDBC), states a person associated with the family. The trust’s objectives include assistance to the needy, dissemination of education aid and medical assistance to individuals and hospitals or similar institutions. The buyer of the bungalow is BGH Properties, an Aditya Birla Group company. An existing tenant on the property has reportedly been given Rs 139 crores (USD 16,794,112) as compensation for surrendering his tenancy.
The PDBC was set up by Dubash’s mother Soonabai Peroshaw Bolton in 1960, noted The Times of India of April 24, 2023. The first trustees were Bolton, Dubash and senior lawyer Nadirshah Mulla, of the legal firm Mulla and Mulla. According to Dubash’s will of November 2012, her shares and securities, furniture, antiques, paintings, silverware are to be sold and the proceeds transferred to PDBC, stated the news report, quoting an unnamed family source. In 2015, Dubash’s art collection, including 16th and 18th century Mughal and Deccani paintings, a rare work by artist V. S. Gaitonde, jewelry and a crystal chandelier, was sold by public auction at Pundole Art Gallery and garnered Rs 1.8 crores (USD 217,738), states the report.
The executors of Dubash’s will are Eddie Palia, Adi Jehangir, Cyrus Nallaseth, Darious Cambatta and Chetan Shah.
