“Institution in himself”

Lawyer, past president of the Zoroastrian Club and erstwhile trustee of the Parsi Zoroastrian Anjuman of Secunderabad and Hyderabad (PZASH) Jehangir Hormusjee (pictured), who passed away at age 88 on January 22, 2022 was "an institution in himself, having vast knowledge of the history of both these institutions,” noted PZASH trustee Jehangir Bisney. The in-house, go-to person for all legal matters, the deceased had sound knowledge on the interpretation of the Anjuman’s trust deed, stated Bisney. "There would hardly be a day when we wouldn’t be over a call on our landlines talking about things in general and community matters in particular.” A very successful lawyer in his younger days, Hormusjee would provide pro bono legal assistance to community members in need, noted Bisney.
Hormusjee became a managing committee member of the Anjuman in December 1977 and trustee in January 1987. He resigned as a trustee in April 1999 on health grounds. "As a Trustee of PZASH, I always looked up to him as a mentor and guide… I knew that any advice from him was gospel and the way provided by him could never be questioned,” appreciated Bisney.
President of the Club in 1985-86, Hormusjee was a great dog lover and they always spoke of their pets, noted Parsiana correspondent Beyniaz Edulji. "A family man…Very devoted to his late wife Shireen, son Jamsheed, daughter-in-law Ruksha and grandson Kiyaan,” she noted.                                                  F. J.
