More facilities at Masina

A donation of four crore rupees from the Rotary Club of Bombay has resulted in the creation of new departments and upgradation of existing ones at the 117-year-old Masina Hospital, stated the Hospital’s chief executive officer Dr Vispi Jokhi while speaking to Parsiana on July 16, 2019. "This is the largest ever project in the history of this Club,” he appreciated, explaining that the Club is in its 90th year.
The funds were used for building a new accident and emergency room within the main Hospital building, with facilities for performing minor surgeries, and a new cosmetic procedures department with the latest machines "that will enable procedures at affordable cost.” The gastro-intestinal endoscopy department has been upgraded, as has the orthopedic operation theater, the burns department and the neonatal intensive care unit, noted the Hospital’s newsletter volume VI dated July 1, adding that "an additional one crore rupees is expected to come in for the ear, nose and throat surgery department.”
The inauguration of the new facilities on May 29 was attended by about 40 Rotarians, stated Jokhi. "The project is the culmination of the efforts of Club president Vijay Kumar Jatia and his team,” noted the newsletter. Speaking on the occasion, Hospital managing trustee Homi Katgara said that "upgrading the Hospital with new units and latest equipment further establishes its goodwill in healthcare.”

The Hospital has upgraded its existing physiotherapy department with "specialized equipment to undertake rehabilitation for all conditions,” Jokhi noted at the inauguration of the center on July 10. Set up in partnership with ReLiva Physiotherapy and Rehab chain of clinics, the facility will serve as a cardiac rehabilitation center, "part of an… outpatient program focused on exercise and education,” noted a write-up from the Hospital. The goal of the program is to establish an individualized plan to help patients regain strength after a surgery and reduce the risk of heart failure. The July 2019 newsletter added that shortly a neuro rehabilitation center will complement the cardiac rehabilitation services.
Dr Aashish Contractor, specialist in rehabilitation and sports medicine at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation (previously Sir Harkisandas Narottamdas Hospital), who inaugurated the new department, told Parsiana that "cardiac rehabilitation is an essential component of recovery from any cardiac diagnosis. This center will complement the in-patient care of the Hospital, and serve as an excellent resource for comprehensive medical care.” Dr Karishma Daswani, head of the department stated that ReLiva believes in a holistic approach and will "accordingly customize the treatment plan of our patients.”
