The three-day festivities for Navroz, organized by the Parsi Youth League of Ahmedabad (PYLA) at the Sports Club and Lalkaka Hall Sanatorium Grounds, were filled with activities for community members, mentions Ariz K. Bokdawala, PYLA general secretary in an email sent to Parsiana. The New Year dinner held on August 18, 2012 was attended by about 250 Zoroastrians. The adults were entertained with housie, while the children played other games before enjoying the buffet spread.
During the following weekend, August 25 and 26, varied activities were arranged for community members including competitions and games, antakshari for the adults, elocution for teenagers, fancy dress for the little ones. There were games for all at the Hall on Saturday evening. Sunday morning, though rain drenched, saw participation by young and old in activities like prayer and rangoli/chalk competitions and a treasure hunt, a drawing contest for children culminating in a grand housie with a big "snowball” prize along with an eat-and-meet evening, notes Bokdawala.
At the prize distribution that evening, then Ahmedabad Parsi Panchayet committee member and now a trustee Prof (Dr) Armaity Davar, a longtime supporter of PYLA gave away the prizes. Over 200 persons were present at this event which PYLA has been organizing every year since the past two decades, the email concludes.
