Senior Ahmedabad Parsi Panchayat (APP) trustee Shirin Kanga "didn’t choose to be a social worker but instinctively got involved in community work… (She is) an octogenarian bundle of energy,” said Ariz Bokdawalla, managing committee member of the APP. She, along with past APP trustee Merzban Lahewala and educationist and APP committee member Armaity Shroff (both posthumously) were felicitated with Outstanding Community Service Awards by the Panchayat on January 6, 2024 at the Parsi Dharamshala Hall.
Lahewala "was also instrumental in setting up the Sunamai and Phiroze Davar Charitable Trust and was always looking forward to serve the community,” stated Bokdawalla. Shroff, a teacher for half a century, "has written over 100 plus papers in English, Gujarati and Hindi for the visually impaired students in various colleges of Ahmedabad,” added Bokdawalla. She was also a trained mountaineering guide.

Lifetime Achievement Awards were conferred on advocate Kersasp Shethna, posthumously, and retired chief fire officer of the city Mehernosh Dastoor. In addition, there were awards for academic brilliance. A total of 22 achievers were felicitated. A very brief note on the event was sent to Parsiana from the APP office with Bokdawalla filling in the details.
Chief guest, academician Armaity Davar was felicitated by APP president Brig Jahangir Anklesaria (retd). Armaity spoke of the need for youngsters to excel in any field of their choice. She was happy that the youth of today was exploring varied sectors and not restricting themselves to a few tried and tested ones. "She urged the winners to stay humble and reach even greater heights in future,” stated Bokdawala. Anklesaria spoke about the different activities of the APP and thanked Armaity for her initiative and motivation to all awardees.
The function had commenced with a jashan ceremony by Ervads Vistasp and Vazaan Dastur. The community meal was sponsored by Armaity in memory of her parents Sunamai and Dr Phiroze Davar.
