Calcutta Club turns 110

To celebrate its 110th anniversary, the Calcutta Parsee Club (CPC) had not one but over 20 cakes. "We had asked our members to help by baking some cakes and were overwhelmed by…the variety of cakes,” noted a report from the CPC president Prochy Mehta. Whilst remembering past presidents, the late Adi Rabadi and Beji Bulsara, the ‘cakes’ cutting was jointly undertaken by former presidents Russi Jeejeebhoy, Jimmy Vatcha, Noomi Mehta and Jemi Bilimoria on November 11, 2018.

Enthusiastic members of the Calcutta Parsee Club

The annual jashan and felicitation of presidents was followed by a junior basketball match, a senior basketball tournament, night cricket for senior members, and eventually dinner. The enthusiasm for night cricket was remarkable. As related Prochy, "Everyone wanted to play and we finally had 15 players to a team… We had three players aged over 80 on the field and Sanjay Dutta was there behind them to hold them in case they overbalanced while batting!”
Since everyone wanted a return match, within three weeks a barbeque dinner and Round 2 of the Night Cricket was organized on December 2. With more keen on playing, this time they had 18-a-side. "We streamed the game live on Facebook, and family and friends all over the world tuned in to watch and give their comments. Rayomand Subawalla was our commentator and kept the audience enthralled while Ratan Postwalla and Rayzad Bulsara controlled the serious action on the field,” wrote Prochy.
