“PLIH: for senior citizens”

In his letter "PLIH: for senior citizens” (Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, June 21-July 6, 2021) former Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) chairman Dinshaw Mehta states that he was not against the revival of the Parsi Lying-In Hospital (PLIH) if it was for the welfare of the community, but he was against the method employed by the managing committee. As the owner of the PLIH is the BPP, if Mehta was as interested as the managing committee for its revival, he could have invited them for a meeting and discussed the matter on friendly terms and resolved the issue in the best interest of the community. Now that is past and over. We have to decide on the future options for the PLIH. We need a permanent solution for the PLIH, our prized asset which is now a liability to all concerned. Over three-and-a-half crore rupees (USD 4,70,591) are to be paid as property lease rent! Even if it is not generating any income, it would be worthwhile if the Hospital was serving some humanitarian cause. PIROJA HOMI JOKHI piroja.jokhi@yahoo.com ...
