Parsiana sources information for the Milestones column from various anjumans, hospitals, individuals, newsletters and publications. While much of the material is sketchy, the Bombay marriages and death lists are quite exhaustive.
Data on marriages within the community in Bombay is culled four times in a year from the office of the Registrar of Marriages at the Bombay High Court and on interfaith unions from the Registrar of Marriages offices at Fort and Khar. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony.
The list of the deceased and causes of deaths for those consigned to the Doongerwadi in Bombay is provided by the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) with a disclaimer that the information has not been verified or authenticated by them. The Worli Prayer Hall sends Parsiana names of those cremated there.
The last few names of those deceased in September 2020 find mention here as well as those who passed away till October 10.
In the break-up of Bombay Doongerwadi deaths, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
Since Parsiana received the death list for August 2020 in early October, we were unable to publish the causes of deaths for that month in the September 21st issue. Herein are the causes of deaths of Zoroastrians who died in August and September 2020.
Causes of deaths for August 2020: Various diseases of the heart took the lives of 17 patients, 11 of whom were above 80 years. While pneumonia/lung disease claimed nine victims, eight fell prey to diabetes, five to hypertension and four to old age/general debility. Three Zoroastrians perished due to cancer, two each to septic shock, multi organ failure and brain disease and one each to gastroenteritis, malaria, Parkinson’s disease, ulcer and urinary tract infection. In the case of one death, the cause was mentioned as "death due to hanging.” The community lost a female aged 103, who was the oldest to breathe her last. The youngest was a 56-year-old male. The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for August 2020 in Bombay was 82 years.
Causes of deaths for September 2020: Ten of the 11 Zoroastrians who died due to heart conditions had crossed their 80 year milestone. Other causes of deaths were stated as diabetes (nine), cancer (eight), hypertension (seven), pneumonia/lung disease and old age/general debility (four each) and multi organ failure, Parkinson’s disease, and brain disease (two each). High blood pressure, anemia, septic shock, liver failure, Alzheimer’s disease and septicemia claimed isolated lives. An 85-year-old male lost his life by hanging himself. The youngest and oldest ages at death were 63 and 96 respectively. The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for September 2020 in Bombay was 82 years.

Data on births in Bombay is made available by the Breach Candy Hospital. Births in other hospitals and private nursing homes are included when an individual sends us information together with a copy of the birth certificate.

ERRATUM
In the listing of births (Milestones, Parsiana, August 7-21, 2020), the first three names of parents (Kanchi and Nekzad Dhunjibhoy, Pinaz and Karl Boga and Hufrish and Zubin Kapadia) have been inadvertently mentioned as being for June 2020, though they were of June 2018.
Also, a girl, Tyraah, was born to Nilofer and Murad Currawalla on July 24, 2020, and not a boy as incorrectly printed.
