Dahanu’s fatal accident

Sixty-five-year-old Dahanu-based agriculturist Bomi Mubarakai  (pictured) died on March 10, 2019 and four other Dahanu residents were injured when a speeding dumper toppled on the vehicle he was driving, according to media reports. Mubarakai, his wife Gover and family friends Dr Merwan Irani, and Parivaz and Ronnie Irani were said to be returning from Parivaz’s niece’s wedding in Jaipur. The crash took place outside Dahanu. Ronnie told Parsiana on March 28 that he had suffered fractures in five ribs and a punctured lung. He was treated at Bombay’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute and is back home......

Very sorry for Bomi and his family and friends. It seems he was the victim of a completely senseless accident caused by an extremely careless truck driver. While only those at the scene know the exact circumstances, I have been on Indian highways and I would advise motorists and bikers to be extra careful in giving trucks as wide a berth as possible. As in this unfortunate instance, they can be death on wheels with likely an idiot at the wheel. Perhaps this sort of cavalier disregard for human life can be checked if the companies or individuals who own these trucks can suffer tough legal consequences -- as they do in some countries.
