The public notice for sale of the World Zoroastrian Organisation (WZO) Sanatorium in Sanjan due to low occupancy and increasing losses has raised the hackles of some community members who as usual question the bona fides of the trustees and their motives. A WhatsApp group, Save Sanjan Sanatorium said to comprise around 1,000 members was created earlier this month in an effort to stymie the sale and suggest a myriad alternative approaches and uses for the 10,482 sq m Bai Maneckbai P. B Jeejeebhoy Sanatorium situated adjacent to the Sanjan Stumbh.

When Parsiana representatives have stayed in dharamshalas in south Gujarat they have often been the sole occupants in the facility, despite modern amenities like geysers and air conditioners being installed (in some rooms) and the rates being low. According to an article in the Parsi Times (PT) weekly of September 27, 2025, the Sanatorium incurred a loss of over Rs 60 lakhs (USD 67,581) in the past five years.
WZO Trust Funds chairman and trustee Dinshaw Tamboly told PT, "Over the past five years occupancy has been around 11% generating an income of three lakh rupees (USD 3,379) annually against expenses of Rs 12 lakhs (USD 13,518).” The trustees therefore unanimously decided "to monetize the non-performing asset and utilize the proceeds towards poverty relief, food distribution, medical needs, encouraging entrepreneurship and other charitable objectives.”
