Bone marrow transplant
The WZO Trust Funds (WZOTF) is issuing an update on the "Appeal for aid” (Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, October 21-November 6, 2023) for Ervad Shahzad Darayus Hozdar (pictured), who is suffering from high grade Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), a condition in which the bone marrow does not produce enough healthy blood cells. A bone marrow transplant would need to be done.

The medical treatment required being beyond the financial means of the family, the WZOTF by way of public appeals circulated both overseas and in India raised Rs 99,47,334, of which Rs 2,54,786 was paid to The B. D Petit Parsee General Hospital (PGH) on October 23, 2023 for Hozdar’s treatment. The balance, as of October 25, is Rs 96,92,548.
The patient’s family members have agreed that should some amount be surplus after the treatment is completed, WZOTF will utilize it for future medical appeals.
For Hozdar, one chemotherapy treatment has been completed at the PGH. Doctors have kept the second chemotherapy treatment on hold until the patient’s parameters return to normal. Six rounds of chemotherapy are planned, and after a break of one month he will undergo the bone marrow transplant procedure. A search is on for a suitable donor.
The WZOTF extends sincere gratitude to all donors.
