Fredun E. Divitre’s article on Justice Rohinton Nariman, "Decreer, dispenser and dissenter” (Parsiana, September 7-20, 2021), could not have described this wondrous person better! I read it over and over, because of the precision and colors with which he has described this "genius.” Thanks to this, I have read Nariman’s books.
Why is such a person not guiding the affairs of the Bombay Parsi Punchayet, post retirement? In fact, via this, he could be giving a refreshed direction to the "idea of a Parsi.” The community needs leadership of a kind almost impossible to locate in India and elsewhere.
Instead of being locked into endless debates on the grammar, his stewardship would bring Parsis, the world over, back to the narrative. Nariman would transform a community into a civilization, were he to lead and spread his timeless ethics and wisdom.
