Jer Baug tenants’ initiative

The Wadia family built several colonies to house Parsis in Bombay. The buildings in these colonies are around 100 years old. Realizing that it is now their turn to look after them, the Jer Baug C Block residents have upgraded their building, making it strong enough to last for the next generation.
With cooperation from the Wadia Trust and the tenants, a committee was formed and a decision taken regarding the makeover, including strengthening the exterior structure and painting it, as well as replacing water pipes and other repairs.
Because of the pandemic and other reasons, work on the building took longer than expected. This has now been completed, and on August 21, 2021, Khordad Saal, a jashan was performed by Ervads Kerman Sukhia and young Zeus Navalmaneck, priests residing in C Block. The jashan was attended by Bombay Parsi Punchayet trustees Kersi Randeria and Xerxes Dastur, along with Percy Siganporia, secretary of The N. N. and R. N. Wadia Trust.

The work put in by committee members along with the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority contractor Vijay Chillekar from M/s Arya Construction Bombay and his team has been appreciated by all. Keeping in mind the safety of tenants (young and old) and the rules of the Maharashtra government and The Wadia Trust during Covid times, repairs were done in stages. Starting with the exterior repairs of the entire Block to changing of the water tanks and pipes in every flat was a tedious job.
Zubin Fouzdar was the brain behind every improvement in the Block, Aspi Tantra was always around, the committee members and cooperative tenants were together responsible for making this happen.
