Milestones

Births, marriages and deaths taken place primarily in the former half of April 2012 are carried in this issue.
Due to the courts being closed for the summer holidays, Parsiana could not access the names of the couples who tied the knot during this period. The same will be published in a forthcoming issue.
No Zoroastrian babies were born between April 1-15 (as per the data sent to Parsiana from two south Bombay hospitals)! The major killer — heart disease — claimed the lives of 12 patients; seven of whom were in the 80 and above age category. Three Zoroastrians each fell prey to brain disease and pneumonia/lung disease, whereas kidney failure and septicemia claimed the lives of two victims each. Hypertension, liver disease, diabetes, hemiparesis (a slight paralysis or weakness of one side of the face or body), urinary tract infection, old age/general debility, multi organ failure, fever and gangrene were listed as isolated causes of deaths. The eldest and youngest to breathe their last were both females at 93 and 56 years respectively. The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for the first half of April in Bombay, was 78 years.
The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anjumans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anjumans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by two hospitals — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. The names of the deceased are supplied by the Bombay Parsi Punchayet. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
If readers have any births/marriages/deaths they would like published, some proof to ensure the veracity of the report would be required. We are sure our readers would appreciate this require-ment and cooperate with us.
