"What is Polson, Mummy?”

It has been stated in "What is Polson, Mummy?” (Bawa Musings, Parsiana, December 21, 2014) that Dippy’s was a partnership between Jiji Dastur and Noshir Pochkhanawala. In fact, the partnership was between Dinshaw (Jiji’s younger brother) and Pochkhanawala. I was born a Dastur and am the niece of Jiji and Dinshaw. Dippy’s made canned dhansak dal, vegetable pulao, papri, lagansala stew, pumpkin murabba and the most popular malida. They never canned vindaloo. Along with these Parsi dishes they also canned jams, tomato ketchup, fruit crushes and fruits like mangoes, peaches and pineapples. Unfortunately, Dinshaw passed away in 1962. After some time, in the late 1960s, Herbertson took over Dippy’s and it later merged with Kissan. SHEHERNAZ P.
