Showing faces

A musician of 30 years’ standing with a wanderlust, as he describes himself, Zubin Balaporia, keyboardist and full-time member of the cult Indian rock band Indus Creed, (the erstwhile Rock Machine), says that "touring the world has given him the opportunity to visit many a strange town which has fuelled a wanderlust with an edge for extreme adventure.”
As states his website, the passion for photography started in 2013 when on a visit to the former concentration camps of Auschwitz and Birkenau "he was so taken by what he saw, that an urge to photo-document his trips was born.” His exhibition of 40 images, "Faces & Places,” showed at the Happy Home and School for the Blind from August 3-11, 2024. "It’s quite difficult to curate one’s own photographs because you love them equally, just like the music you compose,” Balaporia had told Daily News and Analysis (October 6, 2018) just before his exhibition "Blessed by the light” where he showed 36 of his images.

For the last decade, "photography has become an addictive passion and trips to the Amazon, the jungles of Laos, villages of Ladakh, a trip to the Arctic Circle and Siberia have followed,” notes Balaporia. Through his prints, he says he would like his pictures to teleport viewers to these wonderful locations that he himself has visited. "‘Faces & Places’is an exhibition that reflects all of the above,” he stated.
His musical career includes multiple live shows, private work and cinema. The musician is known for his work in Lafangey Parindey (2010), It Could Be You (2005) and Home Delivery: Aapko... Ghar Tak (2005).      F. J.

Master aids
The refurbished classroom for the 10th grade students of The Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Parsee Charitable Institution are now equipped with interactive smart boards, "enabling dynamic and engaging teaching methods.” A dedicated library corner stocked with reference books, study materials and educational magazines has been established. A fresh coat of eco-friendly paint and motivational quotations occupy the walls. "These walls were painted with four different colors depicting the four houses of the school students (Diamond, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald), thereby creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere,” noted Daisy Zohrabi, principal of the preprimary, primary and junior school, in an email to Parsiana. "Ergonomically designed desks and benches were introduced to ensure comfort and support for students during long study hours,” she added. The refurbishment was possible through a generous gift from the Master Foundation.
In his address at the inauguration of the classroom on July 29, 2024, Capt Percy Master, who was present with his wife Arin, emphasized the importance of quality education and also stressed that students should give back to their alma mater when they become successful in life. Others present included trustee Rohinton Padder and president of the alumni association Farhad Hozdar. Both Zohrabi and principal Vandana Nambiar, who leads the senior school, highlighted the significance of community involvement and urged others to take inspiration from this initiative.                          F.
