"It is different by design,” notes an announcement on the Tata Motors website about its latest concept offering, Curvv. Sailesh Chandra, managing director, passenger vehicles and passenger electric mobility who unveiled the concept in a slick video on their website on April 6, 2022 stated that Curvv will offer "a futuristic design and exhilarating performance.” The product will be launched as an electric vehicle (EV) first and later with an internal combustion engine (ICE), stated Chandra. "It is a crisp, dynamic and sporty product,” noted their head of design, Martin Uhlarik in the video. Curvv will merge the durability of an SUV with an "elegant and sporty silhouette of a coupe,” promises the company’s website. The car "has found the perfect balance between elegance, performance and practicality,” it stated.

The Financial Express (FE) of April 7, called the Curvv, "which would be launched in the next two years,” a "born electric” vehicle, unlike the company’s previous models Nexon EV and Tigor EV that were developed from ICE cars. Chandra told FE that the company has termed existing EVs as Generation 1 EVs (those that were developed from ICE cars). "The Curvv will be the first Generation 2 EV (developed first as an electric car and then with an (ICE),” he stated.
Tata Motors has emerged as the country’s largest SUV selling company, noted the news report. Sixty-one percent of the 370,372 vehicles sold by the company in the financial year ended March 2022 were SUVs, noted FE. Quoting Chandra, the news report stated that the company currently has roughly 22% share of the SUV market and "a whopping 85% share” in EVs in India. F. J.
