Biomedical research scientist and healthcare professional Dr Zinobia Madan was conferred the Jewel of India Award for Landmark Contributions in Healthcare and the Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award for Innovations in Healthcare at a function in early 2014 organized by The Indian Solidarity Council in association with the International Institute of Education and Management in New Delhi.

The first award was in recognition of her involvement in research with nutritionals, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, and as an entrepreneur for introducing the lifestyle medicine and wellness concept through her clinic ClinOma Healthcare which imparts knowledge to groups of individuals on the advantages of healthy living which is achievable by right lifestyle practices. The Rajiv Gandhi award came her way for dealing with patients of diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease, cancer and other lifestyle related diseases through counseling on diet, exercise, yoga and extended care approaches. These are aimed at improving the health of people and reducing the economic burden by eliminating high treatment costs incurred by patients.
A write-up sent to Parsiana mentions that for the last four years Madan had been doing community work, including, for some time, with the Government of India’s Jiyo Parsi scheme aimed at increasing the population of the community.
At the age of 13 Madan received the Meritorious Science Award of the Nehru Centre at the hands of noted nuclear scientist Dr Homi Sethna. At 19 she was said to be the only student from Bombay University to be selected for research training at the National Chemical Laboratory in Poona. Later she conducted research in the cardiovascular field at Bombay’s Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre for which she was awarded her Master’s and Doctorate degrees. She then spent 25 years in the pharmaceutical industry, heading research and medical teams in leading multinational and Indian companies, the write-up notes.
