Sister success

She set a new meet record (NMR) on January 8, 2013. In the Girls Under 12 (U-12) group, Zeshah Davar hurled the shot put to a distance of 10.54 m (2 kg ball), securing first place at the MSSA (Mumbai School Sports Association) Inter School meet. With her throw, she eclipsed the old meet record of 10.2 m and set up in the process a new Maharashtra state record. In the Anglo Indian Maharashtra Inter-School meet in Poona on January 11, she won gold and once again created an NMR with a throw of 9.46 m with an 8 lb shot. In the first two months of 2013, Zeshah has taken part in several meets, securing first place in all, as per the data forwarded by her mother Zenobia.

Several months earlier, the Christ Church schoolgirl had stood first at the Bombay DSO (District Sports Office, which functions under the aegis of the Maharashtra State Education Department) annual athletic meet for school and college students at the Priyadarshini Park. "Zeshah is the Maharashtra state U-12 shot put champion. As a special case she was allowed to compete in the U-14 age group. She surprised all and got the gold medal with a magnificent throw of 8.84 m,” states Dara Doomasia, the Bombay Parsi Punchayet’s chief coach for athletics.
Zeshah is the third child of Shahrukh and Zenobia to excel in sports, following in the footsteps of brother Shahzen and sister Zenrookh. "Shahzen too was a regular at shot put, discus and javelin till two years ago. Of late he has taken to dirt biking. Seeing both her siblings do well in shot put, Zeshah was naturally inclined towards it at an early age. She trains religiously five times a week. After finishing her studies, athletics training is what she looks forward to every day as it helps to relax the mind and she loves to interact with the other children who train with her,” observes Zenobia. Her most memorable competition, notes Zeshah, was the MSSA one where she broke the state meet record this year.
Zenrookh is a state and national level athlete in shot put and javelin throw. Adding to her accolades of previous years, she began the new year with a first place finish in shot put in Girls U-18 at the Wellington Catholic Gymkhana meet at Khar on January 31, 2013. At the National Inter Zonal Athletics Championship in Poona last September, she had ranked fifth in India in the javelin event, as per her fact file. "Zenrookh is one of the best javelin throwers in Bombay,” asserts Doomasia who trains and mentors several other champions as well along with his assistant coaches.
