"Please treat me now with different Parsi foods... no sense putting it in my satum no khumcho (vessel used for food offerings during after-death prayers),” urged centenarian Homi Mehta, who "is a very big foodie,” reports his nephew Porus Karanjawalla. Specially prepared lagan nu custard was served at Mehta’s instance at his 100th birthday party where about 100 guests, including relatives, friends and neighbors, helped Mehta celebrate his milestone at Hotel Karl Residency on June 23, 2017. At the party hosted by Mehta’s brother, sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren, the guests played games, danced and then helped themselves to a sumptuous dinner, Karanjawalla informs Parsiana in an email.

"Homi uncle got married to Mehru Mistry of Jer Baug in 1950,” informs the nephew. Mehta has two sons and a daughter (one son and daughter being twins), he adds. An audiovisual presentation put together by his granddaughter Khushnum Bhamgara brought back memories from Mehta’s college days, his marriage, navjotes of his children, his outings with Mehru and also the marriage of his grandchildren, while daughter-in-law Ashish compiled a pictorial life story of Homi in the form of an album, notes Karanjawalla’s email.
The centenarian had served with Godrej Soaps in a managerial capacity for around 30 years. A keen sportsperson, Mehta excelled in sports like table tennis and badminton, the nephew adds. The senior gentleman ascribes his longevity to his jovial nature, according to Karanjawalla. Mehta uses a walker at home, and when out, a walking stick. He reads and watches television, states the nephew and "in the evening he goes down (he resides at Cama Park in Bombay) with help and sits on the bench.”
