Business brand

The brand value of ‘Godrej’ has been pegged at $ 2.86 billion (around Rs 14,000 crore). The valuation was done by global branding agency Interbrand, taking into account only its businesses in India, the Godrej Group stated at a press conference in May 2011. Chairman Adi Godrej said: "Businesses in India today can no longer have a local outlook, but rather a globolocal understanding since lines between regions are consistently blurring… it is important to have a scientific approach towards brand development.” Its international acquisitions made in Asia, Africa and South America were not included this time. With all its businesses included, Godrej aims to break into the top 100 global brands, as per press reports. The Financial Express stated in its Sunday edition (July 24, 2011) that FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) major Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GPCL) posted a 94 percent increase in its consolidated net profit (at Rs 239.2 crore) for the quarter ended June 30, 2011. Adding to its acquisition initiatives abroad, GPCL very recently bought a 51 percent stake in Darling Group Holdings, which operates in 14 countries across sub-Saharan Africa.

"Godrej aims to cut its carbon footprint by half in 10 years,” states a heading in The Times of India, May 25, 2011. "As a Group we want to follow good and green strategy. Setting targets is one element of that. The second part is to design products which meet environmental goals… Every company in the Group, as well as every division in each company, has signed up for it… Some businesses can take a higher target and some others can take lower targets,” Jamshyd Godrej, chairman and managing director of the Godrej and Boyce Manufacturing Company Limited told the paper in an interview.
