Surat-based family physician and former trustee of the Surat Parsi Panchayat (SPP) Dr Khushroo Lashkari (pictured) who succumbed to coronavirus on August 27, 2020, aged 75 years, was known for his service to the needy, noted SPP chairman 
Jamshed Dotivala in conversation with Parsiana. "In many cases he would not charge for his services, and also provide free medicines.” Lashkari battled Covid-19 for six weeks at the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital. Dramatist and SPP trustee Yazdi Karanjia remembered him as "a thorough gentleman… a very kind doctor…. hasmukh ané mayalu (smiling and kind hearted).” The doctor lived a quiet life. "Ghér thi clinic né clinic thi ghér [his life revolved around his clinic and his home)],” Karanjia told us.
"For the last 150 years, the Lashkari family has served the people (of Surat) with their medical expertise,” noted The Times of India (ToI), of August 28 quoting Dr Jayendra Kapadia, family physician and an associate of Khushroo’s. The clinic where Khushroo practiced at Machhlipith was started by Khushroo’s grandfather Jamshed, and later "his father (Sorab) took over to serve the underprivileged,” noted ToI. Kapadia stated that Khushroo’s passing "is a big loss to the family physicians’ fraternity in the city… He had cars at his disposal but would prefer travelling on the moped.” Dotivala told ToI that the Indian Medical Association hall in the city was donated by Lashkari’s family.
Khushroo is survived by his wife Dilshad and daughters Nina Palsetia and Firoza Cama.
