“The city father”

I was sorry to read about the tragic end of a municipal corporator who was shot dead ("The city father,” Parsiana, May 7-20, 2019). Crime is the No. 1 concern for 84% of the citizens of India, based on interviews conducted by the research wing of the Pew Charitable Trusts which has its headquarters in Philadelphia, USA. The Association for Democratic Reforms has reported that many murderers and rapists — 25%-30% — ran for the recent elections in India and, though not yet convicted, were elected. Criminal cases in India take decades before conviction.
