Ex-Guides captain Mehru Tangree (pictured), who was felicitated with a lifetime achievement award at the hands of West Bengal 
governor Keshari Nath Tripathi on July 3, 2019 for her distinguished service to Bharat Scouts and Guides (West Bengal) received a standing ovation as she entered the Olpadvala Memorial Hall, for the 111th annual general meeting for the Calcutta Parsee Club (CPC) on July 27. Tangree, who turns 84 in October this year, started the Girl Guide section of that city’s Saklat Physical Culture Institute (SPCI) in 1968, stated CPC president Prochy Mehta in an email to Parsiana. "We requested all past and present members of SPCI to stand up and give a salute to Mehru Aunty and once again, almost the entire audience stood up to give the Scouting/Guiding salute,” noted Mehta.
"After presenting Mehru Aunty with a plaque of appreciation, we asked her to give one of her famous guiding ‘calls’ and with gusto she obliged... ‘Kehvu lagoo (how did you find it)?’ she asked... to which the audience responded with ‘majehnu lagoo (it felt great),’” noted Mehta. Community member Makki Ghiara then spoke about her association with Tangree and the training as a future Guides leader she received under her.
Tangree’s many accolades, besides awards and certificates include the Silver Star Award (2002-2003) in 2007 from then President Dr Abdul Kalam.
