Non-profit guide

To mark the 98th birth anniversary of the late Darius Forbes, founder of Forbes Marshall Private Limited, a book titled Governance of Non-profit Organisations in India, authored by Noshir Dadrawala, chief executive of the Centre for Advancement of Philanthropy (CAP) was released on October 2, 2024, noted an email sent to Parsiana by CAP.
The laws governing non-profit organizations (NPO) in India are complex and differ between states and the central government. Dadrawala has attempted to explain what is applicable and to whom and when, so that governing board members and staff have a better understanding of the issues to ensure better compliance.

Darius Forbes (l) and Noshir Dadrawala

Dadrawala, who has been offering compliance related advice to the non-profit sector for over 40 years, is eminently suited to explain the "confusing and complex maze” of the applicable laws, both old and changing ones. He serves on the boards of many NPOs and is a trustee of the Forbes Foundation and a former trustee of the Bombay Parsi Punchayet. Set up by Forbes Marshall to invest in non-profits and strategic social innovation projects, the Foundation supports the most marginalized and under-served sections of society. It supports 50 NGOs (nongovernmental organizations) and has impacted the lives of over 1,50,000 individuals, directly benefitting 35,000 people through its initiatives, reaching out to 4,000 students and economically empowering 3,000 women, states the write-up.
An e-version of Dadrawalas’s book is freely available to all and can be downloaded using the link https://online.flipbuilder.com/forbesmarshall/irla.
