Known as much for her social work and activism as for her sterling business record, 69-year-old Anu Aga was nominated to the Rajya Sabha on April 26, 2012. She retired as chairperson of Thermax Limited in 2004, leaving the engineering solutions providing company in the able hands of her daughter Meher Pudumjee. According to the Poona edition of The Indian Express dated April 27, 2012, Aga is currently chairperson of Teach For India and continues to be on the board of directors of Thermax.

A member of the National Advisory Council headed by Congress party president Sonia Gandhi, Aga works closely with the central government on public policy issues like the right to food, noted the online NDTV Newsletter on April 27, 2012. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 2010 for promoting communal harmony and nurturing education. Aga is an active participant of the Thermax Social Initiative Foundation which, in partnership with the municipal corporations of Poona and Bombay and Akanksha, a nongovernmental organization that enables underprivileged children to get a school education, manages two schools for the lower income group.
Ranked No 79 on the Forbes magazine’s richest Indians list in 2011, Aga’s net worth is said to be Rs 3,440.7 crore, the Newsletter mentions.
