Accept the inevitable

The figures are ominous. In 2017 for the first time Parsi marriages have fallen below 100. And the interfaith marriage percentage has crossed 44 for the second time. The first time was in 2008, a leap year which many Parsis consider inauspicious. In other leap years also the interfaith figure tended to spurt. But this does not explain the upward spiral in 2017, a non-leap year. Maybe other forces are at play. Dear Parsiana,

If, as the latest statistics indicate, an alternative Zarthushti/Parsi community of mixed marriages is growing and developing, members of that community are not typically visible in the pages of the magazine.
I request you to feature the lives of such families -- their challenges and achievements, how (or if) they manage to retain their affinity to the Zarthushti faith, etc. -- more frequently in the pages of the magazine. And not only when high-profile disputes and court confrontations erupt, which you cover very well, and should cover.
Such stories in the long run would be instructive -- and perhaps have the effect of removing bitterness from the debate over intermarriage -- for all sides of this intra-community conundrum. / PC
