“The dream daremeher”

Khurshedji and Shirinbai Doongaji (pictured), in whose memory the Daremeher at New Bombay was recently laid open ("The dream daremeher,” Parsiana, June 7, 2018), resided in their bungalow, Doongaji Lodge, where they were my neighbors on Souter Street, Bombay Central in the 1960s. They had a beautiful Golden Retriever by the name of Romeo which was bred by Ratty (then Daruvala, later my wife) from her prize-winning, imported pair. The Doongajis were friendly with my uncle, the late Maneck Munchersha Javeri, a barrister, who was frequently invited to lunch at Doongaji Lodge on Sundays. He had to get used to Romeo sitting alongside on a chair, a starched napkin tucked in his collar, graciously enjoying his meal from his own bowl on the large dining table.                  PHIROZE B.
