Singularly unbeaten

Two early cricketers who played one Test each have left their mark on community sports

The two "ji”s of Indian cricket were unique cricketing characters. Both were good-looking Parsis, both played only one Test, remained unbeaten and their surnames ended with "ji.” One was a slow left arm spinner, the other a wicket-keeper and a dare devil batsman. They were Rustomji Jamshedji Dorabji Jamshedji (1892-1976) and my uncle, the dashing debonair Kharshed Rustomji Meherhomji (1911-1982).         Rustomji Jamshedji (left) and Kharshed Meher-homji       Jamshedji was the third Parsi to play Test cricket. The first two were Sorabji (Soli) H. M. Colah and Phiroz (Piloo) E. Palia who were selected in the first ever Test match for India; against England......
