“Merging fires”

With reference to "Merging fires” (Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, October 7-20, 2022), anyone who says a holy fire cannot be shifted is making up stories as we have a long history of fires being moved. Whether or not to shift and merge them is a completely different issue. Shifting is possible, advisable even, rather than allowing an unused agiary to go to seed. In 1960 the fire of the defunct Shroff agiary in Bombay was airlifted and enthroned in the Jamshedpur fire temple. The Elahibaug Agiary fire was moved from Bombay to Poona’s Sir Jamsetjee Jejeebhoy Agiary in 1994. Dadar’s Narielwalla Agiary was also shifted from Narielwadi in Byculla to its present location at Dadar nearly a century ago. ZORU BHATHENA zoru@hotmail.com ...
