Farohars fete

On the occasion of its 15th anniversary, the Young Farohars of Delhi organized a day long fete at the Delhi Parsi Anjuman complex on January 30, 2005. On sale were traditional Parsi items like chalk design boxes, divas and other ritual items. A display of Parsi embroidered garas and garments was an added attraction. Parsi food specialities like dhansak, kababs, brain cutlets, dar ni pori, patrel, bhakra, etc though in plenty, disappeared fast, notes a news report from Ava Khullar.
There were many game stalls manned by the Young Farohars where the old and the young willingly joined in the fun. The day concluded with a round of tambola. "It was a friendly, cosmopolitan gathering with friends and families all joining in. It was a good example of how the community has been kept together in Delhi,” mentions Khullar. From the proceeds the Farohars will be making donations to worthy Parsi charities.

Fund-raising time for Delhi Farohars

On every alternate Saturday the Young Farohars in the four to 14 age-group get a chance to interact and learn the history of Zoroastrianism, the teachings of the Prophet, and the rituals, culture, traditions, prayers and festivals of the Parsi Zoroastrian community. By the time the children are navjoted, they have a fair understanding of the faith and its traditions. Additionally the friendships forged bring the young together and they happily join in the community’s programs and activities as a group.
The mothers who conduct these classes were once the students here, learning their basics from scholar Piloo Jungalwala. Over the years they have worked out a curriculum with a measure of fun and games thrown in.
