Jeejeebhoy’s summer camp

The Jeejeebhoy Group, an initiative of the residents of The Bai Maneckbai P. B. Jeejeebhoy Colony at Lullanagar in Poona organized a week-long summer camp from May 6-12, 2013 in the community hall on the premises as well as at some outdoor locations. An email forwarded to Parsiana by Adi Engineer, trustee of the Poona Parsee Panchayat (PPP), reveals that about 30 youngsters took part. The camp culminated in a function and a jashan at which recently elected PPP trustees Roshan Chindhy, Engineer, Polly Patel, Hoshang Dorabjee and Yezdi Batliwala were present. Trustees Shahrukh Irani and Behram Pashtunazadeh were unable to attend, the email mentions.

Guests were entertained with a program compered by Farzana Engineer and treated to dances by youthful talent like Benaaz Kias and Delfruz Irani. The highlight of the evening was a fashion show choreographed by Jeffrina Udachia where tiny tots confidently walked the ramp displaying summer wear, the theme of the show.
Khursheed Wadia, lead organizer, recounted the various interesting programs and sporting activities that the youngsters had been exposed to at the camp. Some of the popular events included arts and crafts, sports with a football team led by Maneck Karkaria, karate and camel rides. Engineer shared the ‘Key to Happiness’ with the youngsters while narrating stories and having fun interactions with them. Representatives from Ruby Hall, Wanowrie conducted an educational session on hygiene and nutrition. The spirit of healthy competition was inculcated in the participants through a variety of activities, including a swimming pool party. The Jeejeebhoy Group also celebrated Mother’s Day during the camp, the email mentions.

The Jeejeebhoy Colony, comprising 232 apartments, is the largest housing complex managed by the PPP and the residents thanked the trustees for improvements made in its upkeep. There has been a revival of community activities after a gap of six years with the summer camp and jashan, the email notes. All the children who participated in the camp were awarded certificates and the 16 volunteers who had worked hard to ensure its success were felicitated at the function.
