Awards in karate

Shihan Jehangir Shroff, 6th dan black belt, president and chief instructor at Yudansha Kobijitsu Karate Doh Federation, India, informs Parsiana via email that 27 Zoroastrian practitioners of the sport have won a total of 41 awards (16 gold, 10 silver and 15 bronze) at the interschool and inter dojo karate championship organized by him at Lady Ratanbai and Sir Mathuradas Vissanji Academy.

Shroff states that over 600 participants ranging in age from six to 65 years, from Bombay, Khandala, Poona, Jalna, Goa, Karnataka and Delhi took part in the championship.
Merzina Irani won gold in the under seven category and Fia Marfatia in the under eight. Varun Pastakia and Behramm Umrigar got the gold medal in the under nine and under 10 categories respectively while Anosh Sood, Jahan Marfatia and Cherazad Udvadia won in their respective junior categories. Rohaan Shroff and Vaishta Cooper walked away with the male and female titles for Kumite category. In the Kata category, Urvaksh Billimoria, Jahan Marfatia, Udvadia and Kayana Vakil won in their respective junior categories while  Shavir Shroff and Vaishta Cooper won in the men’s and women’s categories. Farhad Tengra won a gold in the above 40 category.
