No Parsi couples tied the knot during this period.
The birth and death ratio was 3:21 for August 1-15. Failure of the heart was the cause of death of seven Zoroastrians (six of them over the age of 80). Diabetes, hypertension, anemia and cancer were the other killers claiming two patients each. Isolated causes of death were hemiplegia (paralysis of one side of the body), liver disease, brain disease, pneumonia/lung disese and Alzheimer’s disease. The community lost a 66-year-old man who hanged himself. Fifty-eight and 94 were the youngest and oldest ages at death. The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for the first 15 days of August in Bombay, was 77 years.
The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anjumans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anjumans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by two hospitals — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. The names of the deceased are supplied by the Bombay Parsi Punchayet. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
