Hormusji honored

The 168th birth anniversary of Sir Hormusji Cowasjee Dinshaw (Adenwalla) on April 4, 2025 was commemorated by the Bombay Parsee Association (BPA) with president Xerxes Dastur garlanding his statue at Veer Nariman Road, near the Bhikha Behram Well. Others who garlanded the statue were Hormusji’s great-grandson Saroosh Dinshaw and great-great-granddaughter Simin Patel, Cmde Aspi Marker, and Adi Mehta, president of the Federation of Zoroastrian Associations for Welfare and Culture (FOZAWAC).

Hormusji was founder patron of the BPA and founder president of the Iran League. Dastur, who sent Parsiana an email on the event, spoke about the highlights of Hormusji’s life and achievements, as did Marker and Mehta. A family member read a few extracts from some unpublished notes dictated by Hormusji:
"As president of the Aden Parsee Punchayet, I strove hard to restore unity amongst its members and tried my best to swell its funds…
"Sixty years ago, when I just set foot in Aden, it was like a flowering bud, and it was my privilege gradually to see it blossom and reach its present glorious condition…
"I did very useful work as a trustee of the Aden Port Trust. I was also the president of the Aden Port Commission and went to Boston as a representative of the Aden Chamber of Commerce.”
Those present included Aloo Shroff, Tehmina Peer, Rusi Bhamgara, Adale Patel. Snack boxes courtesy Dinshaw were given to the 25 persons present, notes the email.                                   S. V.
