Over 25 pieces, "from table top works to eight-foot installations in wood, rough metal and laser cut steel” will feature in
"Spectrum,” Bombay based sculptor Arzan Khambatta’s first solo show in Delhi between November 17 and 23, 2017 at the India Habitat Centre. Besides the art works, there will be 10 large images of his approximately two dozen works that are in private collections in Delhi. About five large installations will be displayed for a month in the outdoor space of the Centre, he informs Parsiana when we drop in at his studio on October 16. "The show will have works that I have done between 2007 and now, some of which were shown at ‘Freeze Frame’ his last show in Bombay (see "Capturing a moment,” Parsiana, September 21, 2016), when he brought in his 50th birthday with a showing of 50 of his creations.

The bubbly art man has done about 25 group shows in the capital, but organizing a solo show in a city away from his home base is "challenging logistically.” Bombay gallery Art & Soul and Delhi’s Vinod Dua Art Gallery have teamed up to jointly host Khambatta’s solo debut. The artist has displayed his works at the Bombay gallery four times between 2006 and 2014. Khambatta had told us earlier that it was his wife, designer Khushnuma who "takes care of the peripheral stuff!”
"I will start calling all my contacts starting today… You may put up the best of your works, but if the right people do not attend, it is of no use,” he says. Bombay buyers are more knowledgeable about art, he states, while audiences in the capital want "bigger and better (artworks than their peers).” Wanting to experiment with new mediums, Arzan shows us a few of his black and white paintings that he proposes to exhibit in Bombay in 2018. "And black and white photographs too,” he adds.
