In order to publish more current Milestones information Parsiana will carry the names of the deceased from the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) website bpp-paidust.in and of those cremated and/or whose funerary ceremonies were performed at the Worli Prayer Hall. The names of those cremated are sent to us by Prayer Hall coordinator Ervad Framroze Mirza, by e-mail.
The last few names of those deceased in the end of February 2017 find mention here as well as those who passed away till March 8.Intercommunity as well as civil marriages among Parsis registered at the Old Customs House (OCH) at Fort and at Khar for the period September-December 2016 are published in this issue. However, those names that could not be identified as Zoroastrian have been deleted from the listing.
The marriage officer at the OCH registered nine interfaith unions and three community marriages. The Khar registers recorded nine intercommunity and one civil marriage.
Since the opening of the Prayer Hall at Worli no Zoroastrian opted to be cremated at the Chandanwadi crematorium during the four month period.
As versus 57 members of the community who died in February there were five Zoroastrian babies born. Twenty-one patients fell prey to heart disease — 14 were over 80 years. The other killers were: old age and general debility (nine), septicemia (six), pneumonia and lung disease, kidney failure and cancer (five each), diabetes (two) and urosepsis, multi organ failure, liver disease and leukemia (one each). A 101-year-old woman breathed her last (the eldest); the youngest to perish was a 65-year-old male. The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for February in Bombay was 81 years.
The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anjumans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anjumans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by one hospital — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. The names of the deceased alongwith their ages, addresses and causes of deaths are forwarded to Parsiana by the BPP. The trust however notes that the information has not been verified or authenticated by them. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
