Zubin Mehta’s participation in the Men’s Pattern Cutting and Fitting Five-Week Summer Course at Savile Row Academy in London will enable his firm Uniforms Unlimited (UU) to "flaunt ‘Bespoke Apparel’” on their creations, he stated in an email to Parsiana. The UU managing director (see "Measuring up with style,” Business, Parsiana, February 7, 2018) stated that the July-August 2019 Course involved "unlearning a bit, internalizing traditional techniques and new perspectives on tailoring and cutting” and pattern drafting in theory as well as practice sessions.

The 10 attendees were exposed to a great knowledge transfer "merely by interacting with a few handpicked designers from around the globe,” Mehta stated. Admission is based on a "stringent qualification process.” The Academy receives at least 20-30 applications from India alone, he noted in a follow-up email. Nationalities represented in the course included British, Chinese, Malay, French and American.
Being a student again, "this time only to upgrade my craft” was "challenging,” Mehta said, adding that he was told that he was a top scorer. The Course will enable UU to provide "improved fits and cuts” to their customers, the managing director stated, adding that UU eventually plans to open their own Bespoke Tailoring Studio.
Founded in 2008, the Academy notes on its website that its "objective is to protect, enhance and develop the value of bespoke tailoring by training aspiring tailors to the highest attainable standards.”
